Commands for dogs/pets

Did you see my latest Japanese listening practice video, in which we went for a walk with my neighbor’s dog, Koma-chan?

In the video, some commands were used with Koma-chan.

I’ll share some of them today.

(Sit.)

(Lie down.)

おて (Paw.)

(Other paw.)

おかわり usually means “second helping” or “refill.” It refers to another bowl/glass/cup of something.

For example, you might hear at a restaurant, 「お水のおかわりはいかがですか?」(Would you like a water refill?). In Japan, a glass of water served with dishes you order is free.

However, when used with your pet, it means “another paw.”

Here are also some words to praise your dogs(pets):

えらいね (Well done.)

(Impressive.)

(You were able to do it.)

(Good boy/girl.)

You can also use these with your young kids. えらいね/すごいね can be used with an adult as well. If you say them in a polite form, they become

Here’s my Kuro.

He doesn't do anything, but I say いいこだね all the time to him even when he drinks water.

By the way, I’ve uploaded Anki decks of sentences from this video for paid members.

You can download them from the “FILE” page for Paid Members.

I hope they’re useful.

Have a great day!
